ISLAMABAD: Science, Technology and Innovations are the main pillars for sustainable development and to effectively achieve goals of the millennium and sustainable development goals.
Links between social, environmental, economic dimension require to maintain quality life and for providing the basic facilities to the people in the country, said speakers, while addressing the national seminar on “South -South Cooperation in the Frame of Sustainable Development Goals” organised by Pakistan Academy of Science (PAS) here on Thursday.
Addressing on the occasion, United Nation Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in Pakistan, Neil Buhne said now Pakistan was facing the different challenges but currently lot of positive things were emerging for development and prosperity of the people.
He said that institutions development in country encouraging for future prospects, as well poverty decline in past few decade and life standard of people in education and health has increased. He added that there is need to more work for providing education and health facilities for development and prosperity in remote areas of the country.
He said that Pakistan has big advantage of youth dividend, county as 70 per cent of youth in total population would be played maximum role for development in the country. Neil Buhne appreciated the Pakistan efforts for the achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Addressing on the occasion, Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) Islamabad President Dr. Anwar Nasim highlighted the importance of science and technology for sustainable development. He said that science and technology to play key role for the development and prosperity of society.
Sustainable Studies Institute Islamabad (SDPI) Executive Director Abid Sulhari said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would remove the disparity from the remote areas of the country including Balochistan and other region of the country. He said that Agriculture sector need to be strengthened parallel with industrial sector for acquiring more employment opportunities for the people.
